ACTION ALERT – Look Who Wants To Come To Dinner: Hog Producer Targeting Driftless Water Sources

Public Meeting This Tuesday, Oct. 24, To Address Threat From Iowa Hog Producer.

A Commoner Call reader wrote in with the following:

I would encourage my friends and neighbors to come to Westby for this important meeting next week. Just because you might not be close enough to the proposed hog slaughter plant in between Westby in Viroqua doesn’t mean you won’t be impacted.

They are going to need thousands of sows produce enough pork to feed this operation. Because hogs in confinement are very vulnerable to disease they like to spread these out. So they will be within a short drive of Westby/Viroqua and scattered throughout our community.

Environmental damage, unbearable living conditions for those nearby and declining property values will be the “benefits” to the community.

Knowledge is power:

Learn the facts and the impacts of the proposed Premium Iowa Pork corporate slaughterhouse and how you can help protect our Driftless area’s water, air and quality of life. It doesn’t matter if you live in the cities of Westby or Viroqua, or the surrounding county or cities, large scale factory hog production will impact everyone in the area, whether or not you live in town.

Please attend our first community meeting on TuesdayOctober 24th at 7 p.m. at the Westby Elementary school at 122 Nelson Street in Westby, WI. All are welcome!
