President Donald Trump’s evangelical Christian supporters laid hands on and prayed for the president this week in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, just days before the House of Representatives voted to pass impeachment inquiry procedures.
Among those in attendance, hate group head Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council; Former GOP Congresswoman and failed presidential candidate Michelle Bachmann; Fox News contributor, and anti-Muslim, anti-Catholic, and Judaism Dallas megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress; Focus On The Family and Family Research Council founder Dr. James Dobson; American Values President Gary Bauer; Prosperity Gospel pastor Paula White Cain; and others.
The Christian Post reports Dr. Jeffress “told CBN News that the main purpose of the Roosevelt Room gathering was for Trump to inform the religious leaders of ‘the continuing, remarkable accomplishments of this administration — especially in areas that are important to evangelicals.’” …
Trump Ratchet’s Up The Rhetoric By Tweeting Evangelical Leader Pronouncing Impeachment A Religious ‘battle’
Raw Story (10/25/19)
President Donald Trump ramped up his rhetoric against impeachment by tweeting a video calling it a battle between good and evil.
Late on Friday evening, Trump posted a clip of Fox personality Lou Dobbs interviewing Evangelical leader Robert Jeffress.
“Look, 99% of Evangelicals oppose President Trump being removed from office,” Jeffress argued. “They know this is nothing but a farce. This is what — this is a farce to overturn 2016 and attempt to steal 2020 at the same time.”
They know this is a spiritual battle, Lou, between good and evil and Evangelicals are not going to abandon this president in this impeachment farce,” Jeffress argued.
He then claimed that Trump’s support had actually increased during the less than 30 seconds he spent answering the question. …
White Christians Are An Endangered Species & That’s Part Of What Drives Their Blind-Eyed Support Of Trump

Raw Story (1//22/19)
Much attention has been given to how the widening partisan polarization in America has cut along racial lines, with white voters growing more sharply conservative as they decline as a share of the electorate.
But the divide is not only visible in racial data. According to a study from the Public Religion Research Institute first reported by CNN, a similar polarization also is occurring along religious lines.
“Voters in each party now hold antithetical views not only on issues that dominate the immediate political debate — such as health care and impeachment — but also on deeper changes in the nation’s demography, culture, race relations and gender roles, according to detailed results the institute provided to CNN,” said the report. Moreover, “While whites who identify as Christians still represent about two-thirds of all Republicans, they now compose only one-fourth of Democrats, according to results provided by the Pew Research Center from a new study it released last week.”
At the core, there are two major trends pulling politics in opposite directions. “Not only have the religiously unaffiliated expanded since 2009 from about 1 in 6 to 1 in 4 adults, but the share of Americans who ascribe to non-Christian faiths, a group that also leans strongly Democratic, has edged up from 5% to 7% of the population over that time, Pew found,” said the report — but at the same time, “even as white Christians have fallen below majority status in the country, they remain a clear majority of Republicans.”
The data also show stark cultural attitude differences between the religious voters on the GOP’s side and everyone else. …

Trump’s Guru Declares Christians Must Vote For Trump Because His Judges Won’t Let States Outlaw the Bible
By Kyle Mantyla
Right Wing Watch (10/18/19)
Paula White, a televangelist who is a key spiritual adviser to and supporter of President Donald Trump, appeared on “The Jim Bakker Show” today, where she declared that Christians will stand accountable before God if they don’t vote for Trump in 2020, because he is filling the federal judiciary with judges who will not allow states to outlaw the Bible.
“We were left 170 lower court [vacancies],” White said. “President Trump immediately went to work with his legal counsel, put the best legal counsel together to be able to push through these lower court [judges] in your 9th and your 11th Districts.”
“We’re going to lose the freedom of America soon,” Bakker replied. “This election is so important. It just scares me, what is going on.”
“It’s vital,” White agreed. “Two Supreme Court justices. We know we’ll have a third one, we just need the time. But it is very potential that we could have a fourth or even a fifth.”
White said that Christians must turn to their Bibles and see “what does the word of God say, and where do I line up on policy?”
Even if they personally dislike Trump, she warned, “you’re going to have a make a decision that won’t be just held accountable here for how things turn out for you, your children, your grandchildren, but you’re going to have to stand accountable before God one day.”
“If we can change the Supreme Court,” White said, “you don’t think all Hell is trembling right now?” …

Is This A Trick Question? — Is Mike Pence A Christian Or A Con?
Thom Hartmann Show (4/15/19)
Is Vice President Mike Pence a Christian? Pete Buttigieg is reclaiming Christianity and taking it back from the far right and reminding us that Christ was a progressive and his message was about as far left as one can get. Does this mean that Vice President Mike Pence and the right-wing Christian fundamentalist’s hell-bent on denying human rights to people they imagine are going against God’s word are not Christians?
